A District Court in Paris has ruled against Google, saying that by allowing competitors to run ads triggered by Louis Vuitton trademark terms, Google was guilty of counterfeiting, unfair competition and misleading advertising. The court has ordered Google to pay $250,000 in damages and to stop displaying ads for competitors whenever users type Louis Vuitton into the search engine.
Google is considering whether or not to appeal the ruling. "We're studying the ruling," said Google spokesperson Myriam Boublil. "No decision's been taken yet on an appeal." Read more about the decision here.
